I agree with you. My primary reason for donating is because I love the
school and believe the sports programs are one of the most visible parts of the institution. I want them to be excellent. Yet, I can't help but also want to feel like the donation is appreciated. My experience in that area has been significantly below my expectations. I get over it because of my primary reason for donating but sure feels like they are missing opportunities because they don't know how to reach out to the less-than-million-dollar donors.

The number of endowed athletic scholarships at BYU is very poor for the size of its alumni pool. I believe a couple of the main factors are poor organization and meaningful outreach. Maybe it's due to church culture that donations are just expected (see tithing, fast offering, boy scouts, etc.) so the admin doesn't believe they need to do more. Whatever the reason, it is disappointing.
