I think there is. In TFA he was openly talking about the light making it hard to
continue down his path and his parents both held out hope. Him praying to the guy who ultimately fought against the empire might be significant too. Abrams pretty much did a scene-for-scene remake of A New Hope for TFA, so I can see him copying Darth Vader's path very easily.
