I just had a chance to read the link you sent... it sounds like JJ wanted to include some stuff I'd have liked but
also wanted to do more stuff that would have been annoying, so i'm not sure if the Disney changes are a net positive or negative.
He didn't like the flying stormtroopers and they were just done for merchandising, he had more explanation for Ben turning good and dialogue at the end between Ben and Rey, and would have had the actors from previous movies appearing as force ghosts for the showdown with the emperor, which would have been good.
But then he wanted more Rose and wanted a romance between Finn & Poe, both of which would have been bad.
It'd be interesting to see the original 3 hour cut. Maybe it'll get leaked at some point
