East Asia actually works pretty well. You call in the afternoon and it's mornin
the next day there.
My brother used to live in Korea (got a master's degree there, served his mission there) and we'd call in the late afternoon while he was having breakfast.
West Europe is much harder to schedule, in my opinion, since you'll be roughly 8 hours ahead of everybody--can only really talk in the evenings, and only if your American family can call in the early afternoon.
