so advanced classes are considered but not necessarily in the calculation of the GPA itself.

He said over 4.0. Some high schools use a scale that awards an extra point (5.0 for an A) in honors classes.

I'm sure they have a metric to consider the rigor of the classes taken but it is technically separate

Kind of. My senior daughter's weighted 4.6 is a 4.0 in BYU's eyes

AP and honors were weighted. Honors could get a 4.5, AP a 5.0
