Unless it's at the creation of the company itself, I'm not really sure...
... what purpose a mission statement has. More often than not mission statements are just just a short-term motivator or a way to preach to employees that they need to do a better job.
IMO, a mission statement is a good thing, but it needs to come from ownership and be directed at ownership. Then it can trickle down over decades, but if this is just a way to try and motivate employees for the next year, then it seems 100% worthless.
