I'm surprised at how many people feel she should pay for them. If I am on
the freeway and the truck in front of me lost something off the back (like a mattress or a dresser) I would not feel I owed them anything if I ended up driving over it.
Not a perfect analogy but it illustrates that point. If I am walking in a crowd and drop something and the person behind me steps on it and breaks it, I would not consider them responsible. I dropped the item.
My thoughts on it, anyway.

I'd still offer to pay. Hopefully the person who dropped them would decline but if they didn't that's okay too

Let me clarify. Should the stepper be held financially responsible? No. Would I offer to pay anyway if I was the stepper
