Whenever I go to China they don't even have soap, or tp in the bathrooms.
I have to carry it with me. This has been in beijing and xian, and sometimes in Shenzhen, and is public restrooms as well as nicer places like universities. When I bring it up as concerning, the Chinese I have known just are unfazed. It's just not as expected in their culture.

As for eating family style I'm referring to their practice of having communal plates of food and everyone grabs some with their chopsticks. Most of the time they don't have serving utensils, everyone just uses their chopsticks they are eating with. This of course shares the germs one may have, but here is an article on it if you want. https://www.cnn.com/2017/08/10/health/science-dirty-food-habits-study/index.html. I think it's usually not a big deal, but in a situation like a pandemic, it seems like this would be problematic.

I love the Chinese and their culture, much of it! But these practices especially seem like they would just accelerate the spread of a pandemic.
