Typically a fan system. It's why radon is a big deal on the ground floor, it disperses quite easily in free-air,
it's still coming up from the ground at ground level, but it's not concentrated.
Since it's a heavy element, it can concentrate in basements, especially if you have young kids near the floor. That's the danger.
