The difference in my AP/IB courses at private schools and my brother's at public school, were night and day different.
What was required of me to get an A far exceeded anything that my brother had to do in the same grade. My brother began in private schools and transitioned to public schools for athletic reasons his senior year, and he said it was not even a contest. His private school experiences in 9th and 10th, grades were more difficult and rigorous than any AP class he took His Senior year of school.

My little brother actually moved back to the states halfway through his junior year due to an illness. He went from private school AP class, and then was able to take the same AP subject back here in the States for the second half of his junior year, and he said it was not even comparable. In the states, he didn't even have to study, to ace his tests. He said he felt like he was being pampered.

Now, he graduated 10 years ago, but I have a few current barometers of people doing both. My sister's kids are finishing their first year in private school after being in nothing but public schools. Her kids were in honors classes in the states, and have moved to a private school, and her kids struggled at first as it was way more rigorous than anything they have experienced in public schools. However, one year in, and they absolutely love it.

In this current COVID-19 shutdown, her kids at private school actually have lessons right now being videoed and live streamed, where attendance is being taken daily. My brother's kids in public school were given some hand outs. His kids finished the next two weeks worth of work last night (because it was just easy repetitive work he said), and then now just get to play and have fun until more worksheets get emailed their way.

One other side note, my wife is a public school teacher, and she has repeatedly stated that as soon as our kids are old enough, they are going to private or charter schools.
