Because he was the best player in baseball and nobody cares because mcgwire and Sosa were hitting tanks non stop.
The player he was pre-35 wouldn't have held up and he would have dwindled away, but with roids and his talent, he turned the late career role into a monster and what would have been fly outs previously turned in to 450 foot blasts.
