Answer: Star Trek is social justice in space. It has no concern for actually
world building or doing real science fiction stuff. The fact that there are spaceships and space travel is incidental to the goal of the show.
If they want to do something, they will do it. They literally would just write
"insert techno-babble here"
into scripts because it doesn't matter.
