Whether it was proper or not, show your ID and defuse situation. Assume police
are trying to do the right thing. Looks like they didn't see the small print and thought the Dad was in violation. He wasn't.

If they exercised poor judgement by asking for I.D, you can decide to make a big deal from a small mistake or try to keep it small. If they get outrageous, that's another story.

Much ado by both sides about what should have been nothing. Police were wrong, the Dad was a jerk.
