But I don’t see how he’ll get more snaps there than he did in Provo.
After sitting out this season, he’ll have to compete with the two 4 star DE’s that Utah just signed. Utah is for sure gonna be getting them on the field to help keep them happy/from transferring. Not to mention any other underclassmen who see playing time this upcoming season.
Utah giving him a scholarship was definitely strategic. It’s to show that Utah county LDS players have a place up there. Same reason they put up billboards in Utah county of Chase Hansen and Matt Gay. Now they have Britain Covey, Nate Ritchie, and a Kaufusi to support that message.
As far as Devin’s strategy goes, that one seems less clear. He cited proximity as one of his deciding factors. But if he really also left BYU because of wanting more playing time, he didn’t exactly choose an option that will seemingly provide what he’s looking for — unless he also wanted to give BYU a bit of a slap to the face on the way out.
