Awesome story. My great-uncle was also a B-17 pilot in Germany at that time.
He was in the 351st Bomb Group. He bombed an airfield in Fassberg on April 4, an ordnance depot in Ingolstadt on April 5, an underground oil storage depot in Freiham on April 11 and then flew over to France to bomb a German-held fortress on April 14. A busy couple of weeks for the 351st in early April of 1945.
