That's not to disparage the kid, though. I love him. The way he looked at the start of last season evoked--if anything positive--sympathy. Yet by midseason he was giving us a solid ten minutes & more or less neutralizing guys for that short span — guys who I thought were going to absolutely destroy him.
I have a lot of confidence in his ability to hold his own for 10-12 minutes against good competition (not great competition, though). But beyond that, I'd still be very worried about him. He might be 6'9, but he has the standing reach of a typical 6'6 guy, probably — and has probably a 2 foot vertical. That's not gonna cut it at BYU's level of play for a key role in the paint.
But his hustle, fearlessness & his unique style of scoring from below the rim — they're a pleasure to watch & cheer for. He really learned how to body guys up & slide w/ them.
