The pump is cheaper. Neither is very reliable if they are not serviced. I’ve
had A Winchester automatic for 65 years. I’ve kept it cleaned, oiled, and wiped down. I’ve used it for pheasants, quail, partridge, ducks, and geese. Got it wet many times. It still works great, showing great reliability. One other point about an auto is that it fires faster. This is especially important for quail and partridge. Some might argue being faster is important for home defense. The final decision should be made by what you like best after analyzing both.
