...not every player who is talented, a good shooter etc has that mindset. With a team roster that is as deep as BYU's is I think we have several guys who could fill that role.
While I like Connor Harding and think he certainly has the ability to be that kind of player, I don't think he has that edge mentally. He seems to prefer blending in the background and filling a support role on the team. Nothing wrong with that, good teams need good role players. I wonder if this is how Spencer Johnson will fit in as well.
I definitely think AB has that kind of "gleem" in his eye, that edge. He plays with a bit of a chip on his shoulder and a smoldering intensity. Having BA take over the primary PG duties will allow AB to slide over and be a big shot taker.
I think Haarms will have that edge as well, he'll play this season with a determination to prove something. He'll be that #1 scoring option when we just need a bucket.
2 other guys who are naturally confident shooters and have that kind of edge are Wyatt Lowell and Trevin Knell. Those 2 will have opportunities early on to establish themselves up in the rotation.
It will be interesting to see how Lohner adapts to D-1 bball and how long it takes him to gain confidence in his game at this level.
Bottom line is we have several guys capable of it. The cream rises to the top as the saying goes and as we get closer to the season and this team has time playing together, those floor leaders will rise to the surface and assert themselves and their teammates will figure out where they fit around them. it's a natural part of the evolution of a basketball team.
Every year in the off-season we ask, "How are we ever gonna replace Jimmer Fredette??? Tyler Haws??? Kyle Collinsworth??? Eric Mika??? Elijah Bryant??? Yoeli Childs???" ...and yet we always find that next guy.
