Nostalgia drives much of Disney’s business
Killing this attraction and redoing the entire area of Critter Country changes the park. At some point Disney will change so many things that Disneyland will become just another universal studios. There isn’t much left in the park that hasn’t been touched or corrupted.

I don’t go to Disneyland to experience the latest movie painted over beloved rides. I go to the park I love because I want to share it with my kids and to relive long cherished memories. It becomes a generational experience where you want to share your childhood experiences with your kids. Disneyland is Walt’s Park. I go there To experience Walt’s magic. Splash Mountain despite it being built much after Walt paid homage to one of Walt’s early works and it became iconic and synonymous with Disneyland. Although it is not your favorite ride, many many people consider it their favorite ride and many more have it in their top 3 or 5. It is absolutely shocking that they would axe such a popular and beloved ride.

I for one go to Disneyland to experience classic rides or new rides that have been fit into available space. I go to California Adventure, Animal Kingdom, etc for new experiences. By killing the feeling of the area, by killing this beloved ride to my family, I no longer feel like going to Disneyland. The desire just isn’t there. The west side of the park was my favorite part of the park. Splash may not have been my favorite ride, but it was my favorite place just to be. The introduction of Star Wars killed the river as I knew it and now the beloved area around Splash Mountain will be torn up and redesigned. Frontierland and New Orleans is nice but it only encompasses part of what I loved.

So although you are fine with the change, I am not. Feels like the park I knew and loved will be gone. I’d just prefer to remember it the way it was. Too much change will simply make it into an amusement park, not Walt’s Park.
