Give me all the flack you want.. but my opinion comes from being a father of 2 D1 football players.
These kids are out there playing for your ENTERTAINMENT. Whatever you think they get as payment for that (scholarship, stipends, gear.. etc) isn't enough to cover what they go through.
Go find somebody that played D1 college football (somebody that actually played), ask them to hold up their hands and show you their fingers. A few won't be able to point straight, a few will be going in weird directions. Ask them what kind of pain medications they are on or how their joint replacement surgeries went.
These kids are being asked to Entertain you with ONE MORE thing that could affect the rest of their life. One more thing that could kill their carrier (and for G5/BYU kids... get them off scholarship since they don't get any guarantee). There are already reports of college players who are fighting the effects of COVID.
The insurance these guys get from the school is CRAP (it's secondary insurance, you are required to have your own insurance). And players end up paying more than you think out of pocket (i have the bills to prove it). It's the dark side of football the fans don't want to think about.
They won't get what they are asking for... And the Pac-12 kids asking for 50% revenue share must be smoking something strong... but when they ask for better insurance they should at least get some fan sympathy.
