outside of just playing the season.
What they could do to solve the scholarship issue is simply say that any Sr that wants to stay another year can still be on scholarship and their scholarship will not count against the standard 85 (or 63 for FCS schools). That way the schools can still sign their normal class and after one year scholarship totals return to normal.
Of course that doesn’t do anything for this years jrs, sophs, and freshman who would lose a year and they wouldn’t be happy about it.
Maybe they could say anyone From those three grades who hasn’t used a redshirt year will automatically use one here. That would eliminate a few more from having to give extra eligibility to. But of course that wouldn’t be fair to those kids who already used a redshirt so maybe they’re the only ones who get that extra year given to them. Once again that’s not “fair” to everyone but nothing they do will be fair to everyone so someone is going to get the shaft no matter what.
Or maybe they just say anyone who isn’t a Sr and doesn’t have a redshirt available simply loses the year. Now that would screw over kids like my son who redshirted last year and would lose a year of playing but like I said someone is going to have to bite the bullet.
