When a movement starts to pick up steam, it becomes more powerful when more join
First of all, I am not cancelling Netflix because I enjoy some of their content and would like to continue watching.

With that said, it’s important to understand that in order to apply public pressure to effect change, many people must jump on a movement at the same time. If I cancelled Netflix last week it would have no effect on their questionable content. However, if I cancelled now, and enough others did, it might result in a change. It doesn’t matter whether this particular movie was worse than their other content. What matters is that it has caught the public’s eye and can be potentially used as a catalyst for change.

Many seem to miss this point with BLM as well when they point out that a particular death of a black man was not actually murder because of self defense, etc. In reality it is less important to the social movement whether the particular death was justified or not. It matters more whether there has been an actual perceived problem, and that particular incident is being used as a catalyst for change.
