Amana brand is also not great.

Speed queen/ whirlpool is good and so is GE.

If it stinks then you are using too much soap and not maintaining it.

Good point. Front-loaders use about half the soap of top-loaders. Not sure why.

It might be because of the agitator. They typically have a post agitator still. The HE washers use a little nub.
