Parents of potential recruits, let me give you a little insight about college
athletics. Maybe you already know this, but maybe not. If your child is an olympic athlete and they want to play at BYU, they better be the best of the best, especially if they are male. We see a lot of players on the sidelines at football games, but, in the Olympic sports, it just isn't that way, even with non-roster walk-ons. I was preferred walk-on athlete at BYU and my freshman year there were two freshmen on the team roster, myself (multi-year All-State) and one of the top 5 recruits out of California. That's it! None of the athletes below me in high school were on a D1 team my freshman year.

This conversation doesn't even begin to discuss the enormous training difference between high school and college.

Ask yourself: "is my son the best athlete in the state at his position?" If the answer is "no", don't expect recruiting...at all. This may not be true for football/basketball, I don't know about that world. I don't know about female athletics, either.
