Yeah, they have a similar SOS, but that's because Cincy has played good teams and abysmal teams, whereas BYU has basically played very bad teams.
On average they're the same, but, for the committee, which looks at quality wins and quality losses, Cincy is way ahead.
Cincy is 5-0 against top 75 teams with their best victory over #22 UCF. They have an opportunity to add another top 50 victory over Tulsa.
BYU is 2-0 against top 75 teams, with their best victory over #39 Boise State. Considering the committee's view on injuries in that game, they view BYU as not having beaten a single top 50 team. Our resume is basically the same as Coastal Carolina or Marshall, but with better eye test and margin of victory keeping us 5-10 spots ahead of them.
It's not about SOS, it's about quality wins. And Cincy has a much better resume there.
This isn't to say BYU is a bad team or that I don't think we could beat a top 50 team. It's to make it very clear what the committee is looking at and what we need to do to move up. Adding a UMass or Air Force or Nevada isn't going to move the needle. We need to do whatever it takes to get a legit "name" opponent and prove ourselves
