I passed the exam and received a letter asking me to come to an interview in Denver. At the time, I was regularly going without eating 2 or 3 days a month because I had no money for food and was using a textbook found in the reference section of the library since I had no money to buy the textbook. Flying to Denver for an interview was completely out of the question.

So I ended up as a CPA instead of a foreign service officer.
