That said - I also interviewed for a job for which I was the most qualified applicant and didn't get it. It would've been a promotion, the person doing the hiring liked the other applicant due to her degree (even though I had 5 years more experience than her) and I ended up spending the next year training her to do the job.

All that aside - if I had gotten that job, I doubt I would've left that organization to join the other - where I stretched twice and was rewarded for it both times.
