If you choose the Ecoboost, go with the 2017 or newer Gen II 3.5 Liter ecoboost to avoid the time chain and other issues related to the Gen 1 Ecoboost.
Go with the 2017 or older for the 5.0 liter in my opinion. Ford is doing what others are doing by trying to squeeze more MPG out of the V8. In doing so, they have introduced a lot more complexity to the 5.0 Liter V8. I can't remember all the details but a lot of it has to do with the direct injection fuel system. They were able to squeeze 1 mpg more out of the new generation Coyote 5.0 liter but it comes with the risk of much higher repair costs in my opinion. I just feel like it will need a few more years to work out some of the problems.
