(just three or so blocks from UCLA's campus). It premiered simultaneously at the Village and the Bruin (both huge single screen theaters right across a narrow street from each other). It was an unusual premier because they announced that 1,000 of the 2,000 seats from the two theaters would be filled with the first 1,000 people to line up. The rest of the seats were taken by the usual assortment of stars and movie people.
People started lining up a week in advance like the campout at the Marriot Center and other places for sports. They came in groups and left periodically to eat and wash up in the bathrooms of nearby fast food places.
I didn't have to wait in line because I was working the premier. I saw Burgess Meredith (Batman from the original TV series and the trainer in the Rocky movies), Eddy Murphy, Kim Bassinger and a bunch more stars that night. I assume Danny Elfman (former front man for Oingo Boingo turned composer - composed the Simpson's theme song and has done tons of movies including Batman) was there because I heard isolated applause in one section of the theater when his name hit the opening credits.
That was one of the cooler nights of my young life and remains an awesome memory today.
