Eddie Intervention Needed
I disagree.
If the offensive player his heading to their endzone, and the defensive player is between them and the endzone - and they launch into each other with their heads down - then I agree with you.

What was different about this play is that the offensive player was launching forward. He wasn't launching at another player - just forward.

Sorenson came from the side and launched into the offensive player. I have no problem with him launching into the defensive player - none at all. But in that situation, he can't launch with the point of the helmet.

I actually thought Sorenson did a fair job of trying to roll so that he was making contact with his shoulder/back rather than just hitting with the crown of his helmet into the offensive player. I haven't watched a replay again since last night, so I don't want to comment on that specific play and made assertions that I'm not certain of.

That aside - I think the concept stands that neither the offense nor the defense should be permitted to create contact with another player with the crown of their helmet. So to me, at least, what they are diving into matters. If it's open space - great. If it's another player - don't lead with the crown.
