Eddie Intervention Needed
In every situation either O or D receives an advantage.
OL can't hold, DL can grab OL and throw them around.

If the WR and DB both catch the ball at the same time - catch goes to the WR.

Defense can't touch the facemask - but offensive players can put their hand right on it while doing a stiff arm.

Is this really one ONE place where you want to draw the line in the sand and say it isn't fair for one person to have an advantage? Because the reality is this - there are all kinds of rules that favor one side over the other.

Back to your reason for the rule - to protect players from injury - then there's only one time when it matters. And that's when a player launches into another with the crown of the helmet (whether that's on defense or offense). Someone launching forward into open space doesn't create risk of injury for anyone - so why should it be a penalty?

Frankly - and this is consistent with what I've said all along - I think the offensive player should be called if launching into a defensive player too. So - if the defensive player has position and is between the offensive player and the end zone, in my view it should be a penalty on the offensive player if they launch with the crown of their helmet. But that's because it's consistent with the reason for the rule of avoiding injury.

If you can explain to me how leading with the crown will potentially injure someone who is just doing a superman dive into the endzone and not into any person - I'm open to hearing it.
