I'm not a fan of hibernation at all so I almost always turn it off.

Open a cmd prompt as an admin and type powercfg -h off and press enter.

That will disable hibernation and delete the hibernation file. (which can be significantly large)

Then you can have the computer sleep or whatever when you close the lid. Keep in mind though that Sleep is still consuming power.
