I've lived and driven a lot of places and pretty much all of them love to hate on their local drivers. Pretty much all
have some percentage of their drivers that aren't good drivers and that percentage isn't too different from the percentage of the population that aren't too great at a lot of things. People in San Diego and Orange Country drive pretty much just as fast (and more over the low speed limits they have there). I saw someone in Bay Area literally turn perpendicular to oncoming freeway traffic to try to make an exit. Bay Area and LA traffic almost always stinks and much of that is infrastructure, but much is boneheaded drivers getting in accidents and clogging things up.

Utah's insurance isn't any worse than other places we've lived and less than most so you'd think if drivers were so bad here we'd see more accidents and higher insurance since companies aren't in the business of losing money.

The "Utah drivers are the worst" is silly. There are many, many bad drivers in Utah. Just think of the kids you went to high school with and not hard to imagine many of them are crappy drivers. But that is the case EVERYWHERE.

In MD people would consistently stop at the end of an onramp to wait for a big gap to slam on their gas and merge onto the freeway rather than getting to freeway speed from the outset and then merging. I've never seen that in Utah.

Brazil was a fun and crazy driving experience. It was more like walking through a crowded hall and using body language to signal what you want to do.

I could list many, many places I've driven and all were fine with their fair share of boneheads. Maybe I'd put MD as the worst just because of that funky freeway onramp thing some of them do. Otherwise I think people hating on Utah drivers are silly. My Russian friend was here hating on Utah drivers just last month for driving too slow. I just think it would be more accurate to say "some drivers stink everywhere" and stop trying to crown Utah the worst when it just isn't true.
