I always tell people that yellow lights do not mean "Stop" they mean "Clear the Intersection". So it's relative. If...
...you are too far away you prepare to stop. If you are close enough you hurry on through and as long as you're looking out for people who still need to get out of it turning left or pedestrians, a little acceleration is probably okay to help safely clear the intersection.

Some people have it in their heads yellow means stop and it just isn't so. And they are bugged by those who understand that it isn't so. Kind of like being told to be less "white", but if you tried to be less white you'd be coopting someone's culture. They put you in a lose/lose situation and then complain about you no matter what you do.
