It's about contracts and recruiting
First off, I think Rudy is the best (or at least most important) player on the Jazz, but I'd probably also take him later for this type of setup where it's all about shooting and showing off fancy skills.

But there's a bigger reason we're all missing and it plays a larger role than any anti-SLC bias - using selections as a recruiting tool.
There's a reason Durant took his Brooklyn teammates first, because these guys are trying to get their real team to a championship, more than they're trying to win an ASG.

LaVine is a free agent after next season. That means, in a few months, he's either signing a contract extension or unofficially up for trade. Same story with Julius Randle. Beal can be a free agent then as well.

Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert are locked up longer than just about any other options in that ASG draft pool. Even if they opt out of their player options, they're not leaving Utah until 2025 - when LeBron will be over 40 and Durant will be 37. Both LeBron and KD are recruiting for the next few seasons, not for the twilight of their careers.
