Young/Montana was almost 30 years ago, so that’s not a huge issue. Plus, Namath is a pretty huge name in NY, although he’s pretty old now.
As far as the division goes, I would be nervous. The Dolphins are way better than years past and they’re on the rise. They’ve got a good thing building there. Buffalo will be good as long as Allen is there (assuming last year wasn’t an outlier) and McDermott keeps finding good OC’s. I think Buffalo will last longer than you think. The Patriots are still the Patriots. They weren’t as good last year, but they also had a ton of players opt out. They’ll be better this year than last, I think. It all depends on if they find a QB. Jimmy G going back to NE has been thrown around a lot, it’ll be interesting to see if that happens.
I’m not as sold on the success the new coaching staff will have. Saleh is a defensive guy, and LaFleur has never called plays before. There could be a learning curve there. And if he’s good, him coming from Shanahan and being brothers with Green Bay’s HC would probably put him pretty high on the list for HC jobs.
I hope I’m wrong, but of all the places that will take a QB, the Jets would be my last choice for Zach.
