Why would a guy leave when he says things like this? (see his quotes about UVU)
If you view a place as this extraordinary, why would you ever leave?

1. "I could not be more excited to be here"
2. "This place is extraordinary"
3. "I've played and coached in universities all across the country, I've never seen a place like this that offers this innovative academic cultural experience that is available here. It is unbelievable"
4. "The potential is limitless"
5. "I'm so excited about this group of guys"
6. "My vision for this program is very simple: One day everyone will remember this program was something, and we never could have imagined it would be what it's going to be"
7. "We can make this program bigger than any of us can imagine"

Of course, those are all things that Mark Pope said when he started at UVU - in the first 5 minutes (I particularly enjoy that 3rd quote about how UVU offers a better academic/cultural experience than anywhere he's been before - especially given that he we coming from BYU).

Mark Pope talks a big game about wherever he is as being the most extraordinary place, and the grand accomplishments that they'll achieve. And I don't blame him - he's trying to sell the program. Everything he said about BYU, he said about UVU before that though and if we're upset about him for potentially leaving BYU after talking it up, we should have felt the same way to see him leave UVU after constantly proclaiming how great it is. I've said it before and will say it again, Pope isn't a guy who sticks with any team long-term. Best case scenario, he increases our ceiling and we bring in a lifer to maintain that after he leaves.
