I wouldn't be surprised if hotel doors and or locks are intentionally designed
to be loud. I listened to a podcast where they talked about the sound design of cars, and how they could make cars virtually silent to those inside the car, but choose not to because drivers tend to like the audio feedback they get from the engine and the road noise. And the noise that car doors make when they close is intentional because it sounds sturdy and secure.

If a hotel door made no sound when it closed, and the lock made no sound when it engaged, would people trust that it was actually closed and locked? I don't know, but after hearing those car designers talk about sound in their design, it's made me wonder about a lot of other stuff.
