Not a bust, but I still hate Mike Nolan for going with Alex over Aaron Rodgers.
Rankles me just thinking about it

As a Yewt, yes. As an NFL QB, no.

Agreed. And re: Jamarcus Russell, that has to be one of the bigger wastes of talent in history

99-67 record as a starter. Had Harbaugh not benched him for Kaepernick he might be a Super Bowl champ too.

He was a much better NFL QB than the legend Ty Detmer. You can't refute his career.

Ty's NFL expectations weren't nearly as high as Smith's

Meh, unremarkable career. Perhaps better than a mere journeyman but that's it.

He was a starting QB his whole career. That's pretty remarkable

"Alex Smith has had a successful, if unremarkable, career in the NFL . . .

He has a higher career passer rating than Dan Marino & Brett Favre.

Not fair to compare passer ratings from different eras

I was very surprised to see he's #27 all-time in passing yards.

If he were entering the draft this year, he'd still be a top 5 pick.

I'm not convinced Rodgers would've been good in San Fran. They were inept at the time cycling through multiple OC's.

To people like yourself I say go back and watch the 2003 cal-usc game on YouTube
