Rose saving Fin... Fin was on a straight-line into the cannon thingy at max

speed. Rose veered off then somehow sped up enough to collide with Fin perpendicularly. Beyond the idiocy of the whole Rose-Fin made-up love triangle thing, the whole scene defied physics... which actually was a theme in the entire movie (as the OP pointed out repeatedly).
