This is very risk adverse advise. I don't agree, unless you're only talking
emergency fund money or speculative junk "investing" in which case this is the wrong category. I have my liquid non-emergengy fund money in an automated investor through the same bank I have the emergency fund money in. It has the same fees as an index fund, and is pretty liquid. It is almost always better to have money in something like that than a checking or savings account.
