What you miss is that one of those two is in NH, the other in NC

So to compare it to Utah alone is rather flawed. You would need to compare all of the Rockies to all of the Appalachians, since Mt. Washington is about the same parallel as Northern Montana and Mount Mitchell is about the same parallel as Northern Arizona.
