It’s “less racist” and here’s at least partially why IMO:
In states with lots of poverty and less education, there is more crime, more murder, and more ignorance. When much of the crime, especially violent crime is disproportionately carried out by one race and gender, it creates a huge backlash and distrust of that race. Lots of violent crime plus lots of ignorance equals hotbed for racists. This is not an excuse, rather an observation. It’s also not a commentary on why one race is responsible for so much of the murder.

In Utah we don’t deal with that generally speaking. Highly educated state with not a lot of minorities (AAs especially). We don’t see tens of murders carried out everyday by one specific race, over and over and over. If we did, we’d likely be more racist than we are, but hopefully lest racist overall than the southern states.

In other words, easy to be “less racist” in Utah than other states. Our sample size of interactions is so small that who knows what it really means. It seems many People don’t feel the need to be openly anti-racist in Utah for the most part cuz they almost never interact with black people. They have no negative or positive perception to start with because it’s an completely unknown entity.

So we are “less racist” by default cuz we aren’t even really in the game.
