It's very much genetic. These dogs were bred to fight and be aggressive.
Too many instances of a "well-behaved" or "docile" pit suddenly snapping and mauling/killing another dog or person. Not to mention the fact that when it comes to the number of kids killed by dogs, pits are responsible for usually about 70-75%.
