Even if Conley hadn't been good (and he has), cap constraints allow us to go over cap to retain our own players. So it's either give Conley a big deal or replace him with a cheap, mediocre option.

Given the team's status as a contender, Ryan Smith's money and his relative newness, I think there's no way we don't keep Conley around and foot the large cap bill that comes with it
