There is a middle ground here.
Very few if any are defending the scenario you describe.

His daughter sounds very responsible but her situation is still somewhat unique. She was able to save her money due to being in a financially stable home and is incredibly fortunate to have gotten into BYU. Tuition is unbelievably affordable and is not representative of the massive increases across most other universities. Even then if she is planning to move out of her parents house, 26k is not enough to cover 2 years of costs. To truly work her own way through and come out with enough to cover grad school she will most likely have to live at home. This is still a really good solution and I am not trying to diminish her efforts. The point is across the country millions of others dont have the same support at home and the same luxury of low cost high quality universities within commuting distance of at home support. Community college is a great option but still not geographically accessible to many. This is a real issue for underserved communities and CB looks more elitist than ever trying to explain it away.
