What do you do as a financial planner when people in their 50s-60s come into
your office and reveal they have little or no retirement savings, and possibly heavy debt?
How many people in that situation are naive to their financial reality at that point? And what do you advise them to do?
Based on the surveys I see of average savings in this country, I assume it's not an uncommon scenario.

Tell them to start looking at houses in other countries because that's the only way they'll be able to retire

Seems super weird that people in that situation would even bother to approach a financial adviser at that point. Like,
