Help them be realistic about what “retirement” is going to look like for them.
Help them set goals to get their housing costs as close to zero as possible by the time their ready to retire. With any luck they have enough equity in their home to do a reverse mortgage, downsize/buy something smaller with cash, etc.

Help them get out of debt by the time they’re ready to retire.

Encourage them to defer taking social security until FRA.

Help them begin exploring part time employment options that they may enjoy, would fit their desired (realistic) retirement lifestyle and bring in extra cheddar to help grease the skids.

Help them take advantage of the career/earnings they have left to build a nest egg that may not be big enough to live off of but would help cover unforeseen retirement expenses.
