I think BYU fans came into CFB fandom back in the WAC days. Credit BYU
for dominating the WAC and putting themselves in the position to sustain a high level of success. But BYU was dominating programs with inferior talent, money, coaching, etc. most of the time.

A 9 or 10 win season was somewhat of a disappointment sometimes. That's how good BYU was...in the WAC. In the MWC, Utah had some great runs but they were beating teams like UNM, CSU and UNLV that Utah was going in as 14+ point favorites.

BYU, overall, in the MW was actually pretty similar to Utah's run in the Pac-12 thus far. Early struggles in the Crowton era, then consistently ranked with a few flirts in the top 10.

There is this mindset that Utah has to run the table and be dominant in the Pac-12. I don't really understand that. That's almost impossible for a lower mid tier school in any conference. Show me a conference where non blue bloods are running the table or even winning the CCG.

I think the B12, B10 and ACC champions have been the same every year for the last 3-4 seasons.

It creates this awkward expectation for Utah where 9-10 win season are somehow a disappointment. When in reality, for Utah to be above .500, it's a good season. They'll have to do by beating schools with equal or greater talent, coaches, resources at home and on the road.

A good benchmark is looking at Utah's P12 record vs. G5 schools and MW / WAC teams in particular. That's a really good sample of how the program likely would've fared in the MW.
