My initial thought was Josh Rosen. I don't know the numbers, but if he had a $10 million signing bonus, and the Cardinals had to pay it upfront, it sucks that they just had to pay $10 million and the Dolphins (is that who he went to?) didn't have to pay any of it. But they should be the one to take the hit if they did a bad job evaluating.
I guess the other argument is for guys playing in California vs. guys playing in Texas. If Trey Lance gets paid that $10 million signing bonus, he has to pay CA income tax on it. So it might even be beneficial for him to have part of the payment delayed, in the chance he gets traded to Vegas or a Texas team.
Just kind of rambling, just things to think about.
